During the reveal of Star Wars: The High Republic, a new era ripe for Star Wars stories, the main villains were unveiled, and they’re called The Nihil.

We went ahead and did a little video breakdown of them to shed some light into what they may be into, and if they’re what Jedi fear, which is a selling point Lucasfilm is going with for the High Republic. As in, we will learn what makes Jedis afraid and The Nihil could be it, or maybe they’re linked to some ancient Sith beings like Darth Nihilus himself!

Check out the breakdown below.

During the official reveal of Star Wars: The High Republic, which is a brand new era created for storytelling that is set 200 years prior to the events of The Phantom Menace, the main villains of the era were revealed, and they’re called the Nihil, as in Darth Nihilus, but no connection has been drawn to him yet, or promise of one being there period.

They’re described as Space Vikings, and look the part. They actually look like other gangs we’ve seen in Star Wars stories, but they also look to sport a bit of a Mad Max aesthetic as well. There’s a little Two Tubes and Enfys Nests gang influence in there as well.

There motto has been described as “You can’t take it with you, but we can take it from you.”, so they sound like really great people to come across during the High Republic era.

Now who knows if their name is indeed paying homage to Darth Nihilus, which would imply that they may revel in the darkside of the Force, but considering that we were told that we’d learn what truly frightens the Jedi, one would assume that if The Nihil are the main bad guys and girls, that they probably are messing with some Sith-level nonsense. I don’t see Jedi in their prime being afraid of Space Vikings, so if The Nihil truly are the big bads, I have to hope that they’ll be mixed up with some crazy ancient Sith teachings that influence their ways and initiatives.

We don’t know if they have a main leader yet, but there’s a good chance they will, and maybe that leader is the one who dabbles in the darkside. All I’m saying is that there’s no way this group are the main adversaries of the Jedi Knights unless they have some Sith level darkside influence backing them.
