Apparently, the story in The Rise of Skywalker is going to be an emotionally heavy one according to newcomer Keri Russel. The actress revealed to the Associated Press that she cried after reading the script for The Rise of Skywalker for the first time.

Oh really? Interesting, very interesting.

Russel said, “When I read his script that he wrote I cried, I mean who knows what it will turn out to be and I hope it remains true to what he originally wanted.”

I love that reaction, because it’s raw and honest, so like Russell, I do hope that whatever got her all worked up, has been maintained in the final version releasing this December. She went on to say that she believes J.J. is the only person who could tell the story they’re trying to tell in The Rise of Skywalker:

“He’s not trying to change it to be something else. He really respects what it is.”

This is also in reference to the fact that he had to rewrite parts of the movie due to the Director change, and also the death of Carrie Fisher.

I am hoping that this movie is emotionally rewarding and makes me cry too, because in the end, that reaction is always a sign of masterful storytelling.
