Alan Dean Foster, the author of the novelization of The Force Awakens, has revealed that Lucasfilm forced him to remove lines in The Force Awakens’ novel that pushed along the budding romance that was pretty evident between Finn and Rey in The Force Awakens film.

At the time, Foster believed that this was due to LFL wanting the story to be properly fleshed out in The Last Jedi, but as Foster put it, “And zero happened with it. And we all know why zero happened with it — and there’s no need to go into it in-depth — but that’s, sadly, just the way things are.”

Foster did not go on to write the novelization of The Last Jedi, that was given to Jason Fry, but he did go on to write his own Episode IX novel filled with TLJ retcons and fixes for all of the inconsistencies that he saw between the 3 films.

Obviously, Disney was not interested in this book, so it will never see the light of day.
