Taika Waititi is out promoting his latest film project, so naturally he’s being asked about his Star Wars film project, which was announced three years ago by Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy.

While on the red carpet this week Taika had a little fun with the media and their Star Wars questions by giving a quote that will surely rile fans up, while also clearly being a bit of a joke. When asked if his Star Wars film will feel like “Star Wars” he responded with a cheeky answer.

“It will be … dramatic pause… a Taika Waititi film. It’s gonna piss people off,”

Taika Waititi

While he was clearly having some fun with the question, I don’t think he’s wrong either. Taika has developed a very clear brand when it comes to his projects and one of his go-to’s is comedy, which isn’t necessarily a major trope in the Star Wars saga. There is a 100% chance that his movie, if made, will alienate Star Wars fans who don’t want the franchise to be featured in any other light than a serious sci-fi drama.

I for one am very intrigued by what a Taika Star Wars film could be, so I hope it sees the light of day and people get pissed off.

Nick and I will talk more about Taika’s quote on next week’s episode of the SWTS, so don’t forget to tune into the Star Wars Time Show on a weekly basis via our podcast platforms or via YouTube if you prefer the livestream angle.
