According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok, JoJo Rabbit, and The Mandalorian episode 8, has been approached by Disney and Lucasfilm to direct a Star Wars film.
There is no confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm on this story, but there is a thread that links Taika and Star Wars films together now, outside of his work with Disney+’s The Mandalorian. That link is Kevin Feige. Feige is the mastermind of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and worked with Taika during his time as director of Thor: Ragnarok.
If Feige is tasked with coming in and giving Star Wars the MCU treatment, it would be a good move to bring in someone like Taika to kick things off right.
After the report surfaced, Taika took to Twitter to leave a semi-response to what is circulating.
Rumors, indeed. Only time will tell if this report is true, but as a person who was a huge fan of his work in The Mandalorian, I would be very excited to see him direct a film.
Stay tuned in to Star Wars Time for any further updates on this story!
