If you thought Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may be in financial trouble due to the vocal minority of fans who despise everything Disney has done with the franchise, especially from The Last Jedi on, then you’ll be surprised to know that Star Wars seems safe for now.

That’s because during the film’s first hour of early ticket sales it outpaced Avengers: Endgame’s ticket sales by 45% according to the Atom theater chain. Does this mean the film will make nearly $3 billion and unseat Endgame from its box office throne? Absolutely not, but it is a sign that the Star Wars fandom is alive and well, and regardless of what you’ve read or seen, people are still very much intrigued by the last Skywalker Saga film.

These ticket sales took place before the excellent final trailer was even shown off, so the early purchasing surge was driven by fandom alone. I’m expecting TROS to make some cash, but I don’t think it’ll get too far past $2 billion, if it even hits that mark in the first place.

All I care about is the fact that I got tickets and the process took less than 10 minutes, so AMC at least learned its lesson after the Endgame pre-sale ticket debacle.
