Variety has an exclusive look at some of the more impressive VFX work done for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which showcases why the film was nominated for an Academy Award.

UPDATE – Video now embedded below.

The video, which you have to watch over on Variety, shows the magic used in scenes like Rey’s showdown with Kylo on Pasanna, Babu Frik’s debut, or the ocean battle between Rey and Kylo. Other VFX sequences are in there as well, such as the cave snake and speeder chase, but the coolest one to me is the flashback between Leia and Luke. Here you can see how they de-aged Hamill and Fisher by using footage from the original trilogy. I still think Leia’s face looks a bit off, but I do love the scene.

Make sure to check out more TROS BTS via some new production stills we posted over the weekend.
