Apparently R5-D4, the first astromech chosen by Owen Lars to work on his farm in A New Hope, has gotten his bad motivator fixed, because the little droid has been confirmed to be in The Mandalorian by Jon Favreau himself.

Favreau introduced the droid to the world via his Instagram account with a shot from the set of The Mandalorian. This is the second original trilogy droid to be confirmed for the show, as R5 will be joining IG-88, but probably not on bounty hunts.

The inclusion of R5 in The Mandalorian could also hint at its main location, or at least a location the main character will frequent, which would be Tatooine. I mean unless Stormtroopers took R5’s busted ass off the desert planet after they blew up the Jawa’s sandcrawler in A New Hope, I’m not sure how else R5 could have gotten off the planet.

Of course, any number of explanations could be given about how R5 got away from Jawas and Stormtroopers to explain his appearance in The Mandalorian, but considering the sets we’ve seen, R5’s inclusion gives more weight to it being on Tatooine.

Stay tuned for more Mando news as it becomes available.
