The slate of exclusive Star Wars content for Disney+ in 2024 may finally be official thanks to a newly issued press release teasing the streamer’s big drops for next year.

Contrary to an article from Empire last week, it now appears that only Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte will be releasing in 2024, which is what we said last week on the SWTS talking about the Empire’s article.

This snippet is from the press release’s Lucasfilm’s section:

LUCASFILM

“Star Wars: The Acolyte” will premiere on Disney+ in 2024. The series is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. This series will arrive on the platform in 2024.

Considering that both of these shows were done shooting before the strikes, this does ultimately make sense. Andor Season 2 was not able to finish shooting before the strikes kicked off over the summer, so that production still needs to finish its principal photography, meaning it would still need ample time to finish everything in post-production. This would have made it nearly impossible to get out in 2024.

Release Windows

The official press release didn’t mention when either show would air on the streamer, but according to MSW and Bespin Bulletin, it appears that Skeleton Crew will not be first out of the gate even though it should have aired in 2023 after Ahsoka. BB reported in September that Skeleton Crew wouldn’t release until sometime in the fall of 2024, and now MSW is hearing something similar.

Yeah, it’s not what I want and what Bespin Bulletin has heard and what I have now heard from two separated sources is it would be out like after Halloween. Today I spoke to somebody that said that they, this is a Lucasfilm person, expect it to be Holiday 2024. Christmas season. When I hear holiday season, I expect between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

MSW

BB initially reported that The Acolyte would be out in the second quarter of 2024, but they now believe this will be moved closer to August of 2024.

Bad Batch Season 3

In addition to the two live-action Star Wars shows hitting D+ in 2024, the animated shows in Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi should hit as well. In fact, the Bad Batch team posted that the final mix had been finished, so there’s a good chance it could be the first Star Wars show to release in 2024, hitting early just like Season 2 did in 2023.

Nick and I will talk more about Star Wars on Disney Plus on this week’s episode of the SWTS, so don’t forget to tune into the Star Wars Time Show on a weekly basis via our podcast platforms or via YouTube if you prefer the livestream angle.
