This shouldn’t surprise anyone that watched the first season of The Mandalorian, but according to Giancarlo Esposito, fans will see his Moff Gideon character in a major battle that will require him to use his Darksaber sometime during the show’s second season.
He dropped this information while at a Fan Expo in Vancouver, where he told fans that his character got plenty of time with the Darksaber while filming Season 2.
“The prop guys are wondering about me because I was in a bit of a commotion and a bit of a struggle with someone else, which I’m hoping you will enjoy when you see it. Major, epic, epic lightsaber action happening on this show, and I should mention that I’m the only character in this first season who was able to be honored with having that lightsaber. So it feels wonderful.”

There’s a lot to process in that quote, but the biggest question that comes to mind is who is he battling with his Darksaber, and does that person have a lightsaber to counter it? If so, who could the Force user be? Luke? Ahsoka? A brand new Force user we never heard about? Either way, it sounds like a lightsaber duel is in store for Season 2, so hopefully it’s more than just one, and with other actual lightsabers, and not just Gideon using his Darksaber against blasters and whatnot.
He did clarify that the duel he’s talking about above is not with Din or Baby Yoda.
“Well, no way. [Laughs]. It ain’t gonna happen, baby! Anything is possible, and you keep watching. Because although the baby has some incredible power, without having to wield the Darksaber, I think the baby is so curious about what this is. So you will be enthused and inspired when you see the scene I’m referring to in Season 2, which is to come in October. Keep watching.”

Now that quote adds even more mystery to this scene, and almost makes it sound like the leads will be witnesses to this duel, but not directly involved. Who knows, but I like what Gus is saying. Stay tuned for this week’s episode of the SWTS to hear our full thoughts on this topic
