Kumail Nanjiani was officially revealed to be in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series cast months ago, but thanks to our source we know a bit more about his character and which faction he will be a part of.
While at a private event for another of Nanjiani’s films our source managed to track the Eternals star down for an autograph. During the signing session Kumail revealed that he couldn’t divulge much about his role in the Kenobi series, but he did confirm to our source that he is at least a “Friend of Obi-Wan”.
As you can see in the captured images of the autograph, he even signed off as a “Friend of Obi-Wan”, so he’s definitely playing a pal of “Mr. Hello There I have the High Ground”.
While the information isn’t necessarily galaxy shattering, it does help to add some fuel to the Kenobi speculation-mill and who may be a part of the various factions involved. I for one have always felt that Kumail would make a good fit for a buddy type of role in the show, so according to him it appears that is exactly who his character will be.
The real question is if this “Friend of Kenobi” is an existing character, or a brand new one. As a fan I always love world building, so an existing one would be great, but I also love meeting new Star Wars characters, so I wouldn’t be unhappy either way.
Nick and I will talk more about this exclusive Kumail Nanjiani news in next week’s episode of the SWTS, so don’t forget to tune into the Star Wars Time Show on a weekly basis via our podcast platforms or via YouTube if you prefer the livestream angle.
