While Amandla Stenberg has been unofficially attached to The Acolyte series for quite some time now, fans today can take it to the bank, because her attachment to the series has been officially confirmed on social media.

Today, while at SDCC, Stenberg posted the announcement to her IG account, which has since been commented on and shared by official Lucasfilm and Star Wars social media accounts.

She said:

Next stop: a galaxy far, far away…
I am so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: #TheAcolyte !
Honored is an understatement. May the Force be with you 🖤

At the time of this posting it’s not clear if Amandla is playing the titular character in The Acolyte or not, but one has to figure that is the case since she is the first official cast announcement to be made, and Variety’s late 2021 report pegged her as the lead.

Stenberg is probably most known for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games, but she has starred in recent films like The Hate U Give and Dear Evan Hansen.

Stay tuned for more details on The Acolyte as they become available.

Nick and I will talk more about this reveal on next week’s episode of the SWTS, so don’t forget to tune into the Star Wars Time Show on a weekly basis via our podcast platforms or via YouTube if you prefer the livestream angle.
